Glaucoma Story

“You have glaucoma!” These are the three words that changed my life forever. I still had to get married, buy a house, and have children. I had lost a significant amount of vision from the disease. I felt terrible because I had a strong family history of glaucoma and yet did not get screened for it. I went through denial, anger, and finally, acceptance.

I researched and found an excellent glaucoma specialist who educated me about the disease and the importance of using medicines and following up. I started using medicines. My eye pressure responded well to the medicine. It has been ten years, and I haven’t lost any more vision from glaucoma. I got married and have children. I will not allow glaucoma to control my life. Instead, my glaucoma is under control.
