I got married at the age of 24, without a true understanding of what I wanted to do for a profession. My wife and I had extremely different jobs. I was starting a career in mental health and she was in business. I wanted to help people and she wanted to make money, so each of our value systems were very different. Shortly after our marriage, she was discontent. Part of this was due to the fact that I was not making a lot of money. I had decided to further my education and worked toward a Masters degree in the mental health field. Just as I was starting my internship, she asked me for a divorce. I had no job and was finishing up school. I had to move in with my sister and finish school, while working over nights at a adolescent treatment program. Life was very from at this point in my life, however, I continued with school and eventually graduated. 13 years later, I found a women who was a teacher. Her value system was much closer to mine. Although, I was devastated with my divorce, looking back I am glad things turned out as they did. I am grateful for the profession I have chosen and the woman that I currently have. We have been together for 17 years and are very happy!
