I grew up living a very sheltered life in my teenage years. I was so spoilt that I always got my way with my parents and lived a very comfortable life. With this lifestyle, I was often judged by people, my own friends and extended family as careless and ambition less. No matter how I lived, I had my own dreams and aspirations. I wanted to study abroad, travel and live a completely independent life. Not one person believed in me. My teachers told me I will never be able to become an engineer. My own friends told me I will never be successful and will need my dad to back me up at all times. My extended family thought I wouldn’t be able to live a day on my own. Few years later, not only I had become an engineer but started my own engineering company. Not only I was able to survive on my own, I was able to build an independent life for me and my wife. I found financial success but also realized the real meaning of success. Success doesn’t always mean wealth. It means making your own decisions, standing up for yourself. Success means being empathetic and compassionate. It means being supportive to your friends and family and making a difference to the world. One thing that I have learnt from this experience is don’t ever let someone define what you are capable of or what you should become. Follow your heart, follow your dreams, stay focussed and work hard. Life is what you make of it!
